Designs to Meet the Extremes of Tomorrow's World

Blast Consultant

Leader in Designing Systems
to Resist Blast Effects and Anti-Terrorist Planning

The experts at Karagozian & Case are world leaders in the evaluation and mitigation of the effects of blast on structures and mechanical systems. Some of K&C's capabilities include:

  • Designing blast-resistant structures and structural components.
  • Providing anti-terrorist planning and design.
  • Performing progressive collapse studies to ensure that no easy kill mechanisms are present.
  • Designing and testing of blast walls (particularly relating to protection from large close-in bombs), and access control devices and anti-ram walls (particularly to prevent access of large high-speed vehicles).
  • Protecting occupants of existing buildings from airblast and fragments generated by a terrorist bombing.
  • Using high-fidelity physics based finite element codes to support design studies.
  • Generating software for the design of blast-resistant structural components and the modeling of human injury.
  • Designing devices to prevent penetration of buildings and other facilities by high-velocity rounds, RPGs, etc.
  • Providing highly integrated analytical skills for the analyses of blast and impact effects from high-tech state-of-the-art nonlinear transient finite element predictions to those from more practical engineering methods, which are more commonly used in design.
  • Validating analytic models through extensive comparisons with blast effects test data and with data from tests that K&C specifically performed for the verification of analysis methods. With this data, we have been able to calibrate our simplified engineering design tools and define the domain over which they may be used. This enables K&C to provide blast mitigation services to a wide variety of customers, especially those with small budgets.
