Casey Meakin is an accomplished scientist and software engineer with over 10 years of experience in computational physics and high performance computing (HPC). His experience includes time as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Chicago before joining Los Alamos National Laboratory as a staff scientist.  Much of Dr. Meakin’s research is in the area of high energy density phenomena including stellar astrophysics and supernova theory, and includes authorship of over 70 scientific papers. His work is characterized by a first-principles physics-simulation approach involving a broad range of phenomena including fluid dynamics, turbulence, complex equations of state, radiation and heat transfer, nuclear physics, and combustion. His work has utilized many of the largest supercomputing platforms available, including several listed in the top 10 of the famous ‘Top 500’ supercomputing list, and has involved significant software development efforts.
