07 Jul A Great Loss for the Protective Design Community, John Edwin Crawford
John Edwin Crawford (1943-2021)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Edwin Crawford, Senior Principal and past President/CEO of K&C. Over a career spanning more than 50 years, John was a brilliant proponent of innovative and intelligent approaches to protective design. He was passionate about protecting people and our infrastructure and sought out ways to encourage others to proliferate the field of protection engineering. He was a pioneer in the use of nonlinear finite element analysis techniques to better understand and predict the actual behaviors of structures exposed to blast, shock, impact, and progressive collapse. An author of more than 500 publications, John worked tirelessly to promote the advancement of protective design through his writings and investments in the next generation of engineers and scientists. Always willing to engage in technical (and philosophical) conversations, John had a remarkable ability to expand one’s critical analysis abilities to inspire improvements and innovation. He will be greatly missed by his family and colleagues who had the privilege of knowing and working with him over the years.
