K&C Leads Research in Sustainable Materials for Blast Mitigation

K&C was recently awarded a research grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture under the Wood Innovations Grants Program of 2021.  In conjunction with the U.S. Forest Service and SmartLam, K&C will seek to develop and demonstrate a cost-effective cross-laminated timber (CLT) panel design that is capable of efficiently resisting blast, ballistic, and forced entry threats.  This grant is part of $15 million awarded “to develop and expand the use of wood products, strengthen emerging wood energy markets and protect community forests”.

K&C is excited to be a part of this initiative and looks forward to developing a sustainable, aesthetically-pleasing, and robust structural system option for high-security facilities.  To learn more about this program, click here.
